Questions for understanding what information needs exist and how information is currently used.

1. What is your role at Rice?  What are your responsibilities?

2. What are your group’s strategic objectives, if any?

3. Please describe the “workflow” of your or your organization’s functions.

4. What are the current software/systems applications you use in fulfilling your duties?

5. Are you using any data base software?

6. What hardware platforms do you work with (both client and server, if applicable)?

7. Do you currently access multiple information sources?  What are they?  How do you use the information from each of these?

8. Do you share information resources with colleagues or do you keep your own set of information resources?  Are these in electronic form or are they “physical” assets?

9. How do you currently organize and manage information?

10. What other groups do you work with on campus?  Does most of your information exchange happen within your existing group or do you also interact with other groups on campus?  Do you work with other groups outside of the Rice campus?

11. Are there any information resources you would like to have access to, but currently don’t?  If so, what are they are where are they?  What are the access issues?

12. Where do you keep information you create?

13. Who uses the information you create?  How do they use it?

14. Is the information you use and/or create sensitive, requiring limited/authorized access?  If so, how is that currently controlled?

15. Do you want to have better access to information you use?  Do you have ideas about how you would like to access this information?

16. Do you use multimedia in curriculum?  If so, how?

17. Do you collaborate with other faculty in your department in curriculum development?  How?

18. Do you collaborate with others outside of your department in curriculum development?  How?

19. Do you use students to assist you with using technology in addressing your information needs?  If students were available, would you use them to assist you with technology?  How?

20. If multimedia information were available through a common information repository, would you be more likely to incorporate it into your work?  How?

21. How much do you rely on resources in Fondren to support your information needs?

22. What Fondren resources do you use most and for what?  How much of this information is electronic and how much is physical?  Would you like to have any of the physical assets available electronically?

23. Do you rely on information resources outside of Fondren?  If so, which ones?

24. Are you satisfied with finding relevant information to support your research?

25. How could a digital library better serve your needs?

26. What are your immediate needs?

27. What long term goals can be fulfilled with electronic information and software tools?

28. Any other thoughts?
